Business Briefcase: Georgia mansion to be auctioned
Georgia mansion to be auctioned
An Ellijay luxury mountain home originally valued at nearly $3 million will go to auction starting at $950,000 on April 5.
The Dobie Mountain Lookout is a fully-furnished, 2.85-acre estate in the Ultana Bluffs development. Developer Winterwoods Homes hasn't been able to sell the site, so its sale is now being handled by Concierge Auctions.
"We really feel like the auction methodology is helpful not only for the buyers, but also the sellers," said Laura Brady, Concierge's vice president of marketing. "Sellers can feel confident when they receive a price on auction day that it's the real value of the property."
The auction format also assures buyers they're getting a fair price, assuaging the purchasers' doubts he or she may have overpaid, Brady said.
The 3,200-square-foot log and timber framed house has more than 1,500 square feet of outdoor entertainment areas. The property is less than an hour and a half from Atlanta and Chattanooga.
Those interested can find out more about the property and sign up for the online auction at EllijayAuction.com.
Local companies win 2012 seal
Services Select, a Chattanooga-based company that recognizes companies for their service, recently awarded its 2012 Seal of Satisfaction certification to 23 local companies.
East Brainerd resident Gary Miller co-founded Services Select in 2004 with nephew Sean Tinsley as a way to help consumers identify companies that offer quality service.
"Companies receiving the Seal have committed to uphold the highest standards of quality and exceptional service," Miller said. "It separates and elevates recipient companies and certainly simplifies the life of the consumer wondering which company to contact when in need."
The company uses a 19-step evaluation and interview process. An independent research firm, Wilkins Research Services, conducts both the nomination process with local consumers and initial evaluation of nominated companies. From more than 70 different professional services categories, consumers nominate businesses who are then evaluated using proprietary criteria.

State gets awards in development
The publishers of Trade & Industry Development magazine, a national economic development publication, gave Tennessee the most honors of any state in its list of 2012 Corporate Investment and Community Impact awards. The publication recognized Amazon.com, Inc., General Motors, Quaprotek USA, Mann+Hummel USA and the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development.
Trade & Industry Development recognized Amazon.com Inc. for the company's December 2011 announcement that two new fulfillment centers will be built in Wilson and Rutherford counties. These latest Middle Tennessee locations will create more than 1,300 jobs and generate an investment of $135 million. Together with three existing facilities in Wilson, Hamilton and Bradley counties, Amazon will create more than 3,300 jobs and invest more than $270 million in Tennessee.
Mann+Hummel USA announced in November 2011 its decision to locate a satellite production facility in Dunlap, Tenn. The company expects to invest nearly $15 million during a three-year period and employ approximately 150 production workers and technicians by the end of 2013. Mann+Hummel designs and produces air intake manifolds, air cleaner systems and fluid reservoirs for the automotive, heavy duty and industrial markets.
"During a year when the U.S. economy grew only slightly, the 30 companies recognized by our seventh annual awards stand out as gleaming examples of where the growth occurred," said Scott D. Swoger, the magazine's publisher.
